Josepha Mukandayishimiyimana

Josepha is the youngest of 12 children in their family, and is the only girl. The parents produced 12 because they wanted to get a girl child also. Unfortunately, many of Josepha siblings have died, and only three brothers have survived; Ndarwamboise Marcel (35) , Innocent (33), and Niyotwiringira Leonidas (19). Two cousins of Josepha also live with the family.

"Income in my family is from growing food crops. The size of the land is 10703 sqm (2.6 acres).

My family came from the Northern Province, but now we are Southerners. We have lived here since I was born. Except general genocide problems we didn?t face problems in particular.

My dream is to become a nurse, to help pregnant mothers and advise families on family planning methods and the importance of family planning. My father has a muscles disease, and mother has problems related to old age, and can no longer do work as expected. I will be happy when I get a sponsor for my secondary school. I understand lessons properly! I thank God for the gift of knowledge.?

Robert is the 2nd of the 5 children in their family. He has two sisters: Mugisha Adelaide (12) and Musanganire Adeline (21), and two brothers: Ishimwe Albert Romeo (14) and Turatsinze Noel Lambert (9). Robert's nephew Ganza Clovis also lives with the family.

"In our family we get income through farming on small gardens on the land of our landlord because we rent the house where we live.

My sister Adelaide and my brothers Romeo and Noel study at Crimson Academy. We all managed to study at Crimson because we are potters and the school allows us a to study without paying, so we might have a better chance to lift our potter families in the future!

My dream when I finish to study is to become a doctor and treat sick people."

Mother: Mukaruzindaza Christine
Damascene is the 4th of 5 children in their family. His brothers are Ntibageruka Claude (28) , Mwungeli Claude (20), Birori Jivence (14), and Ntamwera Donize (12). His three youngest brothers attend Crimson Academy.

Source of income for the family is pottery made by the family. Size of their land is 3176 sqm (0.8 acre).

"My family was not affected by genocide of 1994 because the people who were involved would just by pass our home saying, "What can you take from the potters homes?". So we were ignored!

My dream is to be the first doctor from the potters families here in the Southern Province of Rwanda when I finish my studies. This will allow me to support my people, and to give hope to other potter children, to uplift them from darkness! My prayer is to get a sponsor to help me reach my goal."

Silas Nshimiyimana

Silas is 2nd of the of the six children in their family. He has 2 sisters; Jeanete (17) and Pascasie (15), and 3 brothers; Alphonse (23), Pascal (13), and Bosco (11). Two cousins also lives with the family, Claude and Pierre. Silas is the only child in his family who attends Crimson Academy.

The family gets income through raising food crops and they sell some to raise money to buy other basic needs. They own 2100 sqm of land (about 1/2 acre) on which they built their house and grow their crops.

Jean Damour is the oldest of the 4 children in their family. His sister is Umutoni Uwase (10) she studies at Crimson. His brothers are Jean Pierre (12) and Martin (14).

The family lives on a 1/4 acre plot on which they grow food crops, some of which are sold to provide money for other basic needs. Jean Damour?s parents have lived in Kagina since they were born.

Jean?s dream is to become a doctor in the future, after completing his studies.

Father: Maniragaba Marakiya
Mother: Nishimwe Azela
Claudine is the 3rd of the 6 children in their family. She has 5 sisters; Niyibigena (19), Claude (17), Niyomufasha (13), Irene (10), and Betty (6). All the children have lived in Nyaruhoko since they were born.

None of Claudine's siblings go to Crimson Academy because this year Crimson has not admitted any new students in the upper and middle classes! There is no room for new entrants.

The family?s source of income is Agriculture. Claudine suffers from ulcers and the disease has affected her the whole of this school year!

Claudina?s dream is to be a doctor to help the sick people. Even her father and mother are sometimes sick. She says she wants to fight sicknesses like ulcers by educating people on preventive measures.

Daniel Nisengwe

Mother: Nyirarukundo Beatha
Daniel is the 4th of 7 children in his family. He has 3 sisters and 4 brothers. ?I have one sister who studies at Crimson Academy. She has been promoted to primary two for the 2015 academic year. My two oldest brothers are not normal! They suffer from diseases. I don?t have any grandmother or grandfather.

We live in Kagina. We have neighbors that love us so much. We have land for our house and kitchen and some land. We get income from growing food crops.

When I finish to study in the future, my dream is to become the president of Rwanda. I want to help the needy in the future, and to keep my country peaceful, without war."

Diane is the 3rd of the 5 children in their family. She has 3 sisters: Louis (24), Valerie (20), and Epiphanie (11), and one brother, Wycliffe (14). Other household members living with the family are cousin Aline and paternal uncle James. None of the other children are studying at Crimson Academy.

"Our family gets income from physical work like raising food crops. The size of our land is 1952 sqm (1/2 acre).

When I complete my studies I want to become a teacher and teach children of Rwanda or any other place, the way my good teachers taught me. My family and I will be excited if we get a sponsor to help me reach my dream of becoming a teacher."

"I am the 7th of 9 children in their family. I have one sister, Uwera Prisca, who is in grade 5 at Crimson Academy, and also one young brother called Mugisha Philemone in grade three. I also have a brother in another school and a brother attending a secondary school. I have another brother who is not studying.

We live in Rukaragata in southern province of Rwanda. My parents have lived there since they were born. Even my grandparents were buried here!

My family income comes from manual work. The size of our land is just large enough to provide food for the family. The health of my parents is not good, because of the heavy work they do, and it is hard for them to provide food for the family, and to raise the money to cover school fees and other scholastic materials.

My dream when I study and finish, I want to be an engineer."

Jean is the 6th of the 9 children in their family. Jean has one sister Uwera Prisca who studies at Crimson Academy, and will be in grade 5, and one younger brother, Mugisha Philemone, who will be in grade 3. He has 3 other brothers, one who attends another school, one in secondary school, and another who is not currently attending school.

The family lives in Rukaragata in the Southern Province of Rwanda. The family have lived there a long time, and Jean's parents and grandparents were born in the area.

"My family gets income from the hard work that we do like raising food crops. The size of our land is just enough for growing food for the family.

My dream when I study and finish, is to be a doctor. To me I cannot say that the health of my parents is good because of the heavy work they do providing food for the family, and earning money to pay for school fees and scholastic materials.

David is the 2nd of the 5 children in the family. He has 3 sisters, Lilliane (17), Nadine (11) and Ingabire (7), and a brother Eric. Two cousins, Obed and Mercy also live with the family.

"Our family gets income from raising food crops. My father has a small piece of land only for our food production and basic needs.

My sisters Lillian and Nadine, my cousin Mercy and my brother Eric all study at Crimson Academy, our lovely school here in Rwanda.

My dream is to become a doctor when I finish to study."

Emmerance is the 2nd of the 4 children in their family. She has 2 brothers, Jean De Dieu (16) and Fabrice (3), and a sister, Yvette (10). Yvette goes to Crimson and will be in grade three in 2015. We live lovingly and happily in our family.

"My family has lived in the Kamonyi District in the Southern Province of Rwanda for a long time. Both my grandparents are living. My family was not affected by the genocide because we were living in an isolated area of potters.

"The income of our family is mainly from growing food crops, but my father is also a skilled builder, and this is another source of income when there are jobs available. The size of our land is 4153 sqm (1 acre).

My dream is to become a doctor and help treat sick people carefully. My father suffers from ulcers and mother suffers all the time from pain in her legs.

Jean Claude is youngest of the 4 children in the family. He has a sister, Nyiratabaro Christine (18) and two brothers, Alex (25) and Mazimpaka (23). All the children were born in Kagina, as were their parents and grandparents.

The family income comes from raising food crops on their 2032 sqm (0.5 acre) land.

Jean?s dream is to become a doctor after his studies.

Moses is the 4th of 5 children in the family. His brother is Alex (24), and his sisters are Rosete (17), Sandra (15), and Teta (7). His sisters Rosete and Sandra study in secondary. His sister Teta is attending Crimson Academy. Denyse, an orphan, also lives with the family, but is not related to the family.

They have no land, so the family lives in a rented house. Moses' mother is a teacher at Crimson Academy. The family came from eastern Rwanda 3 years ago.

"All my uncles and aunties were killed in the 1994 Rwanda genocide! It caused serious negative effects on my family! As a result we have not stayed in a place for long!

My dream is to become a captain."

Joselyne is the 4th of 7 children in her family. Her brothers are Deo (13), Jile (22), Leonard (6), and her sisters are Console (21), Alphonsine (17), and Aline (10). A cousin, Jeanpierre, also lives with the family.

"I have my sister who also goes to Crimson Academy and we are much proud of this school Crimson for it pulled us from darkness!

Our family grows food crops on their land, some of which is sold to provide other basic needs.

"My dream is to study medicine and help sick people in my community and wherever they will need me to help. My prayer is to get a sponsor to help me reach my goal."

Jean Pierre is 2nd of 6 children in their family. He has two sisters and 3 brothers.

The family gets its income through raising food crops, some of which they sell to provide other basic family needs. The size of their land is just big enough for their house. Therefore they must rent land from neighbors to grow food for the family.

Jean has lived in Kagina since he was born. Even his grandparents were born in Kagina.

Pierre?s father died and now all the six children are cared for by his mother. They all go to Crimson Academy. His mother has another source of income, as she fries popcorn in Kagina to earn some money for other basic family needs.

Pierre?s dream is to become a doctor after his studies.

Patrick is the 2nd of the 7 children in their family. He has 2 brothers; Fabrice (18) and Impano Kevin, and 4 sisters: Belyse (13), Clemance (10), Gisel (6), Umuhoza Kevine (1).

Two of my sisters study at Crimson Academy, Belyse (grade 5) and Clemance (grade3). Our parents want us to learn English, and that is why they enrolled us at Crimson.

The family has lived in the Kagina area for a long time, as both his parents and grandparents were born there.

"Our family gets income through building which my father does. He builds houses in our area when work is available. We also rent land in the neighborhood to raise food, because our land is only 73 sqm, only big enough for our house.

My dream is to be a doctor as doctors in Rwanda are very few. Doctors do great work saving lives, therefore I also want to learn to save lives. Mother suffers from ulcers."

Fils is 2nd of the 3 children in the family. He has a sister, Tuyishimire Caralissa (9), and a brother, Irutabyose Peace, (14). Of the three children, Fils is the only one studying at Crimson.

All the children were born in their home, and his grandparents once lived with them.

The family income is earned by raising food crops on their 1536 sqm (0.4 acre) property.

The family was not specifically affected by the genocide because Fils' parents were living at the time in an isolated part of the southern province, where the affects of the genocide were minimal.

Chance is the oldest of the 3 children in the family. She has two brothers, Ishimwe Herithier (11) and Ishimwe Bonnis (8). A cousin, Ntirenganya Yissa, also lives with the family. Her brother Herithier also attends Crimson Academy, and will be in grade four.

"Both my grandparents are alive. We have lived here for 14 years. We moved here from a nearby village.

My family income comes from growing food crop. The size of our land is 1636 sqm (0.4 acres).

My dad has a kidney problem and ulcers! Mother also has an ulcer problem. My dream is to become a doctor after my studies. I will be happy if I get a sponsor to support me in my studies."

Pauline is the youngest of the 3 children in their family. She has a sister, Ishimwe Joselyne (20) and a brother, Prosper Rukundo (24). An aunt, Mukashema Marisona, and her grandmother also live with the family. Her grandfather has died. Pauline's father doesn't live with the family, so Pauline and her brother and sister are being raised by her mother only. Her mother's health is not good, as she suffers from stomach problems and headaches.

"We live in a single-family house in Runda sector, where we have lived since I was born. My family moved here from Kigali City, Nyamirambo, and bought the land where we currently live. My family grows and harvests food crops, and sells some for basic needs.

After my studies, I want to be a pilot. I heard of a woman who is a pilot here in Rwanda. She is respected so much because she has money to support her family and other people in the community. I wish to be like her.

Denyse was the first born of the 4 children in the family, though she has a twin sister, Belyse. She also has a younger sister, Anitha (6), and a brother Manishimwe Sixbert (5). An orphaned cousin, Esther (15), also lives with the family.

Denyse's family has lived in the area for many generations. Her family grows most of its own food, and some is sold to provide money for other family needs. They have a small plot of land, only 1/4 acre. Her father suffers from ulcers. Her mother has vision problems, which have been helped by glasses.

Denyse?s future aspiration is to become a nurse. "I will be happy when I get someone to support me in my studies."

My dream is to become a doctor. That is a job that will allow me help people and also support my parents with basic needs for their day-to-day life. I will be happy if I get someone to support my secondary education!"

Better is the oldest of the 4 children in the family. Her 2 sisters are Ishimwe Mary Bella (11) and Ikuzwe Mary Bernise (1). She also has a brother, Ineza Antonio Betino (2 weeks). Her sister Ishimwe Mary Bella also attends Crimson Academy.

Our land is 1050 sqm (1/4 acre). We came from Kigali city and are now living here in Southern Province, Kamonyi District. In Kigali we could not earn much income, and we were not living in our own house. But here in Kamonyi we live in our own house, even though it is small.

My family gets its income from a business of buying and selling things.

My dream is to become a pilot. I will be happy when I get a sponsor to help me reach my dream.

Theojene is 6th of the 7 children in the family. He has 2 brothers, Deodone (27) and Eugene (14), and 4 sisters, Cecile (29), Gertulde (22), Claudine (18), and Synthia (8). Two other relatives, Twizeyimana and Chantal, also live with the family. Eugene and Cynthia also study at Crimson Academy.

"My parents have lived in the southern province since they got married. Even our grandparents were born here in Gihara village. Our family earns its income through agriculture and through a business of buying and selling things in a shop. The size of our land is 325 sqm (0.1 acre).

Our family was not affected by genocide as my parents ran to hide in Congo. However the genocide affected all people in general by destroying places of worship, markets, and the homes of many.

My dream is to become a pilot. This will allow me to travel to different parts of the world. It will also me to earn enough money to help the poor people in the world."

Egide youngest of 8 children in their family. He has 4 sisters: Agnes (26), Clemantine (24), Alphonsine (22), and Donatha (18), and 3 brothers: Gerome (30), Bosco (28) and Valence (16). Egide's niece, Munezero Lillian, also lives with the family.

The family lives in a small house on a half-acre lot, not large enough to grow enough food to support the family. The family earns its income by buying goods and selling them in the market.

Egide's dream is to attend a good school in Rwanda and to become an engineer after his studies, and he is seeking a sponsor who will help him achieve his dream.
